Child Development: Puppetry

Show the following video clips or have students find video clips online of different puppets. Discuss the particulars of each puppet video, including defining the puppet’s character, determining the literacy and cognitive skills presented, and analyzing how the aesthetics and content may teach children.
PBS Kids’ Sesame Street: Grover Presents “G” Words: Among other videos, in “Gover Presents ‘G’ Words, the puppet Grover introduces the alphabet letter “g” and its relationship to words.
The Letter People - “Mr. T” : Among many of the Letter People YouTube videos, “Mr. T” is characteristic of this literacy program out of PBS’s St. Louis KTEC station that uses puppets to teach literacy skills.

These videos are appropriate, and the class exercise is great, but both videos concern phonics lessons. But puppets are used in so many other ways, including teaching socioemotional messages. So I wuld substitute one of the videos with a different kind of example.
