  • Fred Rogers was one of the first to recognize the potential role of media in the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young children. Since Mister Rogers' Neighborhood went on the air, in 1967, individuals and organizations including researchers, educators, media program developers and producers, pediatricians, advocates, journalists, marketers, and many others, have acknowledged the impact of media on child development and early learning. With this Resource Database, the Fred Rogers Center has compiled current information on key individuals, organizations, publications, and media sources in these fields. In keeping with the mission and priorities of the Rogers Center, the database focuses on media and its impact for children ages 0-5.

  • The Resource Database is intended mainly for professionals in child development, early learning, and children's media. Parents and others also are welcome to use the database, however, and some of the referenced organizations do focus on programs, information, and/or services for parents.

  • Sources are characterized by type, topic, and primary intended users. In addition to brief descriptive information, the database entry for each source includes contact information and web links as available.

  • The Rogers Center will update and expand the resource listings on a regular basis, and the addition of new listings will be announced on this website. Suggestions for additions to the database will be considered and may be submitted via e-mail to info@fredrogerscenter.org.

  • Although entries in the Resource Database are researched for recognized expertise and current work, inclusion in the database does not constitute either an endorsement or an evaluation of any resource by the Fred Rogers Center.
The Fred Rogers Center gratefully acknowledges the contributions of Dr. Ellen Wartella, Fred Rogers Center Senior Fellow, and her associate, Dr. Katharine Heintz, who have conducted the research and compiled the initial sources for the database.
