From the website: Child Trends is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to improving the lives of children by conducting research and providing science-based information to improve the decisions, programs, and policies that affect children and their families.  In advancing its mission, Child Trends collects and analyzes data; conducts, synthesizes, and disseminates research; designs and evaluates programs; and develops and tests promising approaches to research in the field. Founded in 1979, Child Trends is supported by foundations, government agencies, private organizations, and individual donors.  Child Trends has achieved a reputation as one of the nation’s leading sources of credible data and high-quality research on children. This reputation is evidenced, for example, by Child Trends’ membership in the Family and Child Well-Being Research Network of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). The Institute selects members for this prestigious body through a highly competitive peer-review process. Child Trends has attracted a strong, interdisciplinary cadre of researchers that is engaged in expanding knowledge about: Child Well-Being, including child abuse, neglect, and family violence; early childhood development; education; foster care/adoption; health; and youth development.
