Description

Alice Cahn, vice president of acquisitions and development for daytime on Cartoon Network/US draws on an extensive career immersed in the world of children’s entertainment as she writes a new chapter at this renowned entertainment center for youth. Formerly a managing director of the Markle Foundation, Ms. Cahn headed the Interactive Media for Children program, a multi-faceted initiative of research, investments, and public education that aimed to create and support quality interactive media for young age groups. Ms. Cahn’s experience includes service at Children’s Television Workshop, now Sesame Workshop, where she served as president of the television, film, and video group. In that capacity, she was responsible for all of SW’s domestic and international creative development and television production, as well as home video and audio production and the development and production of film projects for the nonprofit organization. Prior to that, Ms. Cahn was director of children’s programming at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), where her responsibilities included strategic planning, the direction of all PBS children’s projects, and the development of series, including Barney, Teletubbies, Wishbone, Kratts’ Creatures, Arthur, and Carmen San Diego. Ms. Cahn worked on her Masters in Educational Technology at San Francisco State University, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from NYU and holds a New York Teacher’s License, K-8. Ms. Cahn was the invited keynote speaker at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2007, co-wrote a chapter on the global economics of producing children’s television for the 2007 Blackwell’s Handbook; and is a board member of the American Center for Children and Media and Women in Children’s Media.  She and her partner live in Maplewood, New Jersey and have 3 children.
