Dr. Roberta Schomburg Named a Fellow of the Fred Rogers Center

 --Dr. Roberta Schomburg has been named a Fellow of the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College, according to an announcement by Bill Isler, Executive Director of the Fred Rogers Center. In her role as Rogers Center Fellow, Dr. Schomburg will be the external expert for the Center's project in Early Learning Leadership and Professional Development.

May 2006 Groundbreaking for the New Building

 --On May 19, 2006, more than 150 persons gathered at Saint Vincent College for the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Fred Rogers Center and Saint Vincent College Conference Center building. Dr. Milton Chen, Rogers Center Advisory Council Chair, led members of the Rogers Center National Advisory Council in symbolically turning a shovel of soil. The building, designed by Davis Gardner Gannon Pope Architecture of Pittsburgh, is expected to be completed by January 2008.

May 2006 Fred Rogers Center Briefing

--On May 18, 2006, invited guests gathered at Saint Vincent College for a "Breakfast Briefing on Children and Media: Emerging Issues and New Agendas" hosted by the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media. Everette E. Dennis, Ph.D., Felix E. Larkin Distinguished Professor of Media and Entertainment Industries and Director of the Center for Communications at Fordham University Graduate School of Business, moderated the discussion. The panel of experts consisted of Milton Chen, Ph.D., Executive Director of The George Lucas Educational Foundation; Jerlean Daniel, Ph.D., Deputy Executive Director of the National Association for the Education of Young Children; John P. Murray, Ph.D., Professor of Developmental Psychology at the School of Family Studies and Human Services at Kansas State University; and Ellen A. Wartella, Ph.D., Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of California Riverside and Rogers Center Senior Fellow. Dr. Murray, Dr. Wartella, and Dr. Norma O. Pecora are the co-editors of a new book titled Children and Media: 50 Years of Research.

Dr. Ellen Wartella Named Inaugural Senior Fellow of the Fred Rogers Center

 --Dr. Ellen Wartella, Executive Vice Chancellor , Provost, and Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Riverside, has been named the first Senior Fellow of the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College. Dr. Wartella, an internationally-recognized expert in children's media, is a leading scholar of the role of media in children's development. The announcement was made in conjunction with the third annual meeting of the Rogers Center Advisory Council.
