Materials
The Fred Rogers Archive holds a wide-range of materials, including many original, handwritten texts by Fred. These items include letters to personal friends and professional colleagues; ideas and outlines of programs ranging from his earliest children’s television program (The Children’s Corner with Josie Carey) to public service announcements for both children and adults, and speeches. The Archive also houses many of Fred’s awards and citations; programs from a wide variety of events such as commencements, funerals, and memorial services; and photographs from several different sources. For long-term preservation, as well as ease of current access, more than 1,100 videos of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, The Children’s Corner and other programs are part of the digital Archive, along with digitized audio of Fred’s music and digitally formatted print materials. The Archive also contains a collection of oral history interviews of people who knew and worked with Fred throughout his life; these interviews (both the video and transcripts) were produced by the Fred Rogers Center and conducted by the Narrative Trust of New York.
