Building Tour
The Fred M. Rogers Center building officially opened on the Saint Vincent College campus in October 2008. The building is the location of the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media, including the Fred Rogers Archive and the public, multimedia Fred Rogers Exhibit. The building also houses The Conference Center at Saint Vincent College and the gallery of the Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Collection.
The 36,500 square-foot, $14 million building, designed by FortyEighty Architecture of Pittsburgh, is being reviewed for a gold rating by the national Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating Systemâ„¢ of the U.S. Green Building Council. The building was designed for the responsible use of natural resources and long-term energy conservation. Sustainability features include, for example, bio-retention swales and ponds for storage, filtering, and re-introduction of rain water; geothermal heating and cooling; reduction of water usage within the building to 40% less than industry standard; and use of renewable and recyclable materials for construction and interior finishings.
